Ha, what? Nah.
[She kind of is, but he doesn't mind staying up.]
Trust me, if I was really
bone tired
, you'd know.

[She laughs at the pun, but it's weak.]
Thanks. You're a good friend.

[He'll take any laughs he can get out of her. A weak one is better than nothing.]
Oh, so I'm not messing it up? Good to know.

Nope, you're doing just fine. Gold star.

Nice, always wanted one of those. Guess I'm doing a real
stellar
job.
[He just can't stop himself, sorry.]
But seriously, no worries. I've had enough bad nights to know how you feel.

[As long as it's making her smile, she's not going to complain about puns.]
Yeah? I'll try to be around if you need me for a bad night. Worst comes to worst, you can wake me up.

Ha, well, I'll try not to let it get that far if I don't have to, but I'll keep that in mind. And right back at ya.
Hell, my bro would probably thank you for wakin' me. He thinks I sleep too much.

too much
sleep.

Anecdotal evidence is no match for hard science, Serif.

Not really. I mean, I don't know any scientists personally, so it's not like I'm an authority here... Just doesn't seem like your thing.
It's the work ethic, probably.

Heh.
[It's a good thing he's always grinning, or he'd be giving himself away here. Oh, he's gonna remember this. Just in case.]
Yeah, not really my style, huh? Got a friend back home who's a scientist, she's definitely more the type.
Definitely don't envy her position.

Right? Seems like kind of a thankless job, too. People always go 'why haven't you cured cancer yet' and they have to go 'because I'm a
geologist
' or whatever.

Yeah, it's not a fun job, far as I can tell. She's the royal scientist - or, uh, was, anyway - so lots of extra pressure.
Course, science was kinda weird for us in the Underground anyway.

Ha, well. Only so much that could be done stuck underground, y'know?
[Less resources, less room, less people motivated to even get into science at all...]
Plus lots of research was focused just on finding a way out.
